Knowledge Agent

Knowledge Agent

The fuller walkthrough of knowledge automation: templates that carry generation instructions, personas that enforce house style across every author, and two agents that reshape and enrich a draft after it has been generated.

  • Personas make house style reusable and inheritable
  • Styling agent reformats, GenOnFly adds new content
  • Generation runs asynchronously over your corpus

Consistency is the part that breaks first

An enterprise knowledge base has many authors and one voice, in theory. In practice the voice drifts, because a style guide is a document nobody reads under pressure to close a case.

Then the authoring cost: assembling symptoms, causes, steps and specifications from material that exists somewhere else, and reformatting it by hand. This tour makes both mechanical — structure defined once in a template, style once in a persona.

The same Symptoms section written three different ways by three authors, as long prose, as a terse fragment and as a list under a different heading, above a reusable persona that fixes the voice.
One voice in theory, three in practice. A persona holds the styling instruction, so voice becomes something you configure once rather than a convention you keep asking for.

How the pieces fit together

Four moving parts, in the order they run.

  1. Step 1

    Templates

The structure, plus the instructions for what gets generated in each section. A backslash command controls style inline.

  2. Step 2

    Personas

A reusable styling instruction. Create one or inherit and modify an existing persona, then apply it during generation or after.

  3. Step 3

    Generation

A title and the source files. Those stay available afterwards, which makes the next article faster.

  4. Step 4

    Two post-generation agents

The styling agent reformats what exists. GenOnFly adds contextual content that was not in the draft at all.

The four parts of the Ascendo Knowledge Agent in order: templates with inline backslash commands, inheritable personas, asynchronous generation from source files, and the styling and GenOnFly agents.
Structure defined once in a template, voice defined once in a persona, and the assembly done by an agent working from your own files.

Three things worth noticing

The details that make this a workflow, not a writing tool.

House style as a reusable object

A persona carries a styling instruction, and a new one can inherit from an existing persona. Voice becomes something you configure once rather than keep asking for.

“Every persona has a unique styling instruction according to which the content is styled.”

Reshaping and enriching are different jobs

The styling agent restructures content already in the draft. GenOnFly adds material that was never there, such as a wiring schematic relevant to the issue.

Generated to spec, including tables

Text and tables are generated as designed, following the per-section instructions. The table is not a lucky formatting outcome. It was specified.

“Not only is the structure of the article defined in template, we also have the flexibility to control the content that will be generated in each section.”

Left, a paragraph of symptoms becomes a structured list. Right, a wiring schematic appears that was not in the draft at all.

Why the usual approaches fall short

Structure and voice decay fastest once more than one person is writing.

A written style guide

A document nobody opens while a customer is waiting. Voice drifts author by author, and only surfaces months later in an audit.

Article templates in the KB tool

Fix the headings and nothing else. A template can say a Symptoms section exists; it cannot say what belongs in it.

Editing every draft by hand

Works, and does not scale past what one editor can read — making that editor the bottleneck on every article.

A general assistant with a long prompt

Structure and voice in a prompt somebody has to remember to paste, per article. Nothing is reusable or inheritable.

A style guide and KB templates that fix headings but cannot say what belongs in a section, beside Ascendo templates carrying per-section instructions and inheritable personas.
A style guide asks people to remember. A persona is an object that carries the instruction, and a new one can inherit it.

What things are called

Worth knowing before you watch, since several of these are Ascendo terms.

Template
Article structure plus the generation instructions for each section.
Persona
A reusable, inheritable styling instruction. The tour uses SPOC, the Analyst Persona.
Styling agent
Reformats content that is already in the draft.
GenOnFly agent
Adds new contextual content that was not in the draft.
Backslash command
Inline control over the style of content being added.
KCS
Knowledge-Centered Service, the industry methodology of capturing knowledge while solving the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

The styling agent reformats content that is already in the article, for example turning a paragraph of symptoms into a structured list. GenOnFly adds content that was not there before, such as inserting a relevant wiring schematic. One reshapes, the other enriches.
